Malaysian government ministers have been highly critical of blogs over the past year.

However, Deputy Information Minister Chia Kwang Chye recently struck a positive note about blogs.

"Blogs provide a valuable feedback mechanism for the Government," he said. "Such feedback provides useful checks and balances and helps the Government to improve its delivery services."

Chia will be speaking on the "Media's Role in The Digital Era" at the MSC Malaysia Cybercity Conference, which will be held on Oct. 23 and 24.

Singapore Straits Times' Deputy Editor Felix Soh will also be speaking on the same topic at the conference.

It'll be interesting to see if any other government ministers echo Chia's positive comments about blogs. Somehow, I doubt it.
