Glitches hit some EarthLink-hosted sites

The ISP confirms that some customers are seeing slowdowns and outages of their personal Web sites.

EarthLink on Friday confirmed slowdowns and outages among some sites of its personal Web hosting customers. The glitch stemmed from complications while technicians were migrating some customers' sites to different servers, EarthLink spokesman David Blumenthal said. The issue was first discovered by the Internet service provider earlier in the day, and is expected to be fixed by 4PM PT on Friday, Blumenthal said. However, one EarthLink customer contacted by CNET News.com said he had noticed complications since earlier this week.

Blumenthal ruled out a malicious attack as the source of the problems. He added that "less than 20 percent" of EarthLink's Web hosting customers were affected.
