Following Ford's recent move to bring Google Maps to the Sync platform. General Motors is doing the same for OnStar.
Google and GM have been in talks and working together to integrate the Google Android platform and OnStar features. Now what is probably the most relevant Google app for drivers will be available for OnStar subscribers through OnStar eNav, found under OnStar's signature Turn-by-Turn automatic navigation system.
Users will be able to search for and identify destinations through the program, and the results and directions can be sent back to the user either as vocal guidance for older vehicles or presented on the navigation screen for more recently released cars.
Google Maps will be supported by all "Turn-by-Turn capable GM vehicles" made since 2006. As for the upcoming 2011 releases, this will become a standard feature for OnStar-ready, GM automobiles. The new feature should be available by the end of June.
