Good Technology, a provider of wireless-messaging and data-access solutions, announced yesterday a new version of its GoodLink connectivity software.

GoodLink Wireless Messaging, which enables mobile devices to communicate with corporate servers, is now available for the Hewlett-Packard iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC phone, the PalmOne Treo 600 smartphone, and the Samsung SPH-i700 smartphone.

In addition, the software now supports Wi-Fi connectivity, includes more Outlook features, and offers over-the-air synchronization that's three times faster than the previous version, Good said. As a result, battery life improves by up to 25 percent, the company added.

Other new features include a weekly calendar view, a preview pane for e-mail, an option to flag e-mail messages for follow-up, and reply/forward status indicators. GoodLink also enables mobile users to create "out of office" auto-response messages on their handheld devices. The software wirelessly synchronizes these features between the handheld and the Microsoft Exchange server.

In an effort to simplify IT management and deployment, Good has made improvements to the GoodLink Management Console, optional GoodLink Desktop Installer, and Good Monitoring Portal. The latter, operable from both handhelds and desktops, now features a server dashboard view and advanced search and filtering options. These new tools enable IT departments to provide higher levels of service and increased uptime for users, Good claimed.

Last March, in response to patent-infringement claims and other lawsuits, Good signed a settlement and license agreement with BlackBerry-maker RIM. A few months later, the company received over $45 million in funding from venture capitalists.

The new version of GoodLink Wireless Messaging works on GSM/GPRS, CDMA 1xRTT, and Mobitex networks from AT&T Wireless, Cingular, Orange, Rogers, Sprint, and T-Mobile. GoodLink Server is compatible with Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003.

GoodLink for Pocket PC or Treo 600 costs $330 per year. A 30-day trial version is available for download.
