Green IT monitoring made cheaper (in theory)

IBM seeks to make green IT monitoring more readily available to midsize companies.

If you have despaired of being able to afford the sort of monitoring or management software that it takes to make your data center greener, or at least more energy-efficient, take heed: IBM has started offering features from its Tivoli toolset as a monthly subscription.

Tivoli Live Monitoring Services can be used to assess everything from virtualized servers to middleware and software applications. The offering features some of IBM's "autonomic" feature sets, which means the management software can predict and thwart outages that might sap the energy-efficiency of your data center.

Here's a rundown of the features and relevant links.

You have to use the Tivoli service for a minimum of 90 days, but it sure beats the cost of an on-premise license until you can figure out your green IT goals.
