Andrew Grove, American business icon and Chairman of Intel Corp., is taking a page from writer Frank McCourt by publishing his own memoir, due out in Fall 2001.

Titled ``Swimming Across,'' the book will trace the native Hungarian's early years -- from his birth in Budapest in 1936, through the German alliance and the Russian occupation of his country in World War 2 -- until his immigration to the United States in 1957, after the Hungarian Revolution.

Grove, who was the fourth employee hired at Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, in 1968, is known in the business world for fierce competitive drive and his notion that ``only the paranoid survive.'' He was named Time's Man of the Year in 1997.
