Dec 21 (Manila Bulletin) -- Hewlett Packard and Amazon.com have announced a broad agreement whereby Amazon.com will use HP systems in its Web infrastructure as well as offer a broad selection of HP products to Amazon.com's customers.

Amazon.com has selected HP as its technology partner for providing the next generation, highly available Web infrastructure required to power one of the world's busiest e-commerce sites.

Additionally, Amazon.com will now source products directly from HP, thereby increasing the selection and availability of HP products in Amazon.com's Consumer Electronics store. "We are thrilled that Amazon.com and HP can work together on so many fronts," said Joe Galli, Amazon. com's president and COO. "This is a great thing for Amazon.com customers.

On the backend, HP servers and technological expertise will help Amazon. com build the most reliable and secure shopping experience online.

Those same customers will also enjoy Amazon.com's direct relationship with HP because they will receive the best selection of HP products available anywhere."

"In the Internet economy, the experience you deliver online is the ultimate determinant of a leadership brand," said Ann Livermore, president, HP's Enterprise and Commercial Business. "In a world where customer service is king, Amazon.com is reliant not only on being 'up and running' all the time, but having the products people want when they arrive to shop.

HP can help Amazon.com conquer both of those challenges. We look forward to building a sound infrastructure, and a broad selection of HP products in Amazon.com's Consumer Electronics store that is first in its class on the Web."

Amazon.com is installing high-end HP 9000 V-Class enterprise servers that will deliver the high availability, scalability and mainframe-class performance needed to support its ecommerce business.

Amazon.com's decision to partner with HP was driven in part by industry analyst projections that demands on Amazon.com systems will be three times greater this holiday season over past seasons, and by HP's ability to offer creative financial solutions to Amazon.com for the acquisition of HP technology.

HP's Internet computing platforms are expressly designed to optimize the customer experience by guaranteeing the availability and performance of the entire hardware and software environment from end-to-end and across all points of the transaction stream. Through this partnership, Amazon.com will be able to broaden its already very popular line of HP products in the Amazon.com Electronics and Software store.

Amazon.com's 13 million customers have already demonstrated their enthusiasm for HP products as many of the company's printers, scanners, digital cameras, PDA's, calculators and accessories are already among the topselling items this holiday season at Amazon.com.

In addition to carrying the most popular HP products, Amazon.com provides all the necessary information for customers to make an informed purchase decision on HP products.

On the marketing front, Amazon. com and HP agreed to undertake joint sales and marketing activities that support the HP consumer products store at Amazon. com, including participation by Amazon.com in HP eservices and consumer-related advertising.
