HP DreamScreen a wireless photo frame with Facebook, Pandora
HP on Thursday announced its DreamScreen, wireless photo frame combining support for photos, music, video, social networking and the web.
Just when I thought I had seen it all with digital photo frames.
In what should really be called a "digital media frame," the DreamScreen distinguishes itself with integration with social media and web services.
Offered in two widescreen sizes -- 10.2 and 13.3 inches -- the device has a glossy black bezel and comes with 2GB of memory for media storage directly on the device (it also takes several types of flash memory cards).
Using a networked PC (and included software),you can wirelessly stream or move (drag and drop) media to the DreamScreen. That music streaming experience also includes Pandora integration and access to HP SmartRadio, a new service that aggregates live Internet radio broadcasts.
It also includes integration with popular social media site Facebook, which itself has media integration (for example, tell your friends what music you're listening to.)
The DreamScreen includes 802.11 b/g connectivity, a built-in alarm clock (digital and analog), a stand and a remote control.
The HP DreamScreen 100 is available today in the U.S. for $249 (Best Buy, Amazon, HPDirect.com). It will hit store shelves on Oct. 11.
The HP DreamScreen 130, on the other hand, is expected to be available in the U.S. later this fall for $299.
