HTC said it had become aware of an issue a couple of days ago, whereby Australian customers transferring data to an HTC Incredible S, Desire S, Wildfire S and Wildfire may see all transferred SMS messages resent upon reaching the HTC device.

There was a problem with the transfer application on HTC devices, according to the company, which said that the problem only occurs when the user elects to use the Transfer Data application during the setup, and elects to transfer all SMS messages.

New Zealand users will only see the problem with the Wildfire S.

The company said that those not on an unlimited SMS plan would be charged for the SMSes, but said that it was "working very closely" with carrier partners on an answer to that problem, with one solution potentially being to pay for the falsely sent SMSes.

HTC said that it was working to resolve the problem by developing and testing a software update that will be rolled out from next week. Those with affected devices will be noticed that an update is available, and will be told to update them. It expressed regret at any inconvenience.
