It's one of my favorite Broadway satires. To the tune of "I've Never Been in Love Before" from the musical Guys & Dolls:

I know I've seen this show before. In some old high school gym. On someone's basement floor.

I know I've seen this show before. I think I know the book. I know I know the score.

(Trivia alert. The original gave Alan Alda his fine New Jersey accent. The family moved there because his father Robert Alda (right) was the original Sky Masterson on Broadway.)

Long story short, TIBCO is making Version 3.2 of their General Interface open source. I don't mean to belittle this. This is a fine AJAX toolkit. Hopefully it will stimulate the development of more AJAX applications, not just in corporate networks but on the public Web as well.

Get yours now.

Tibco is not giving away the store here. They still sell a lot of serious software and services for business process management and service oriented architectures, the two great buzzwords of our time.

Open source makes perfect sense in TIBCO's market. It cuts marketing costs. It doesn't really kill revenues, because serious users all need support. I get it.

But what about those of us in the balcony?
