Asia Pathways opens regional headquarters; takes incubating companies to operational level
Singapore, 6 April 2000 - Asia Pathways, a Singapore-based incubator of US and European technology companies into Asia, today announced its Asia Pacific headquarters.
Asia Pathways, a management consultancy specializing in IT business development based in Asia, also offers its incubated companies a full range of shared services, business management expertise, industry experience, and an extensive local and regional network of contacts.
According to David Meale, vice president of US operations, "This approach offers the incubated technology companies a quick start, low risk, low cost, rapid growth sales and support expansion throughout the Asian region."
According to IDC, IT spending in Asia is expected to reach US$46 billion by 2002.
"While these companies along, with many other US and European technology companies, enjoy an enviable level of success in their home countries, they often face barriers to entry when expanding into Asia," said Hillman Lentz, president and CEO of Asia Pathways.
Guest-of-honor at the official launch of Asia Pathways was Mr Teo Ming Kian, chairman of Singapore's National Science and Technology Board (NSTB).
"Asia Pathway's decision to set up in Singapore is significant. The fact that this adds to the number of incubators here is important as it reflects the demands brought about by the increasing number of start-ups," he said.
"But equally important is the fact that its model of bringing foreign enterprises here reinforces the increasing interest of foreign growth companies wanting to locate in Singapore," he added.

About National Science and Technology Board
The NSTB is Singapore's lead government agency providing focus and direction to Singapore's technopreneurship drive, and spearheading the nation's capability development. One of NSTB's goals is to promote and develop a technopreneurial environment in Singapore, which will lead to a vibrant and thriving sector of high growth technological-oriented companies. The key leverage for growth of these companies will be intellectual property.
The second key goal of NSTB is to develop capability through promoting and strengthening Singapore's technology infrastruture. This involves developing research capabilities in the research institutes and centres, universities, polytechnics, and government-funded institutions, that have economic relevance and which will lead to the commercial exploitation of technology and innovation.
To meet these objectives, NSTB has structured itself to work on six key thrusts - growing technopreneurial business, developing a conductive environment, promoting finance and investment, developing manpower for R&D and technopreneurship, establishing international linkages, and strengthening the technology infrastructure, which are aligned to technopreneurship and capability development.
