Intel names its Deschutes price
Intel's 333MHz Pentium II 'Deschutes' chip will go straight into the 'just-about-affordable' top-end PC category when it is launched.
The 0.25-micron processor will be offered at $772 apiece in quantities of 1,000, according to sources familiar with Intel plans.
That point is not too far north of the current 300MHz Pentium II ($738). However, Intel typically changes prices every quarter with the next cuts scheduled for February so that situation could change early in 1998.
Intel expects the Pentium II to skyrocket to 450MHz by the end of 1998.
