The USB 3.0 SSD flash drives feature fast speeds, back-up capabilities and built-in encryption. The 1.8-inch drives will be available on 1 November in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB versions. The pricing will range from $229 (£144) for the 64GB version to $749 for the 256GB drive.

Jonathan Huberman, president of Iomega, said the company's latest drives are aimed squarely at the 2.5-inch drive market. "We thought the SMB [small and medium businesses] would be the initial market for this, but the consumer will also be interested," said Huberman, who added that the SSD drives will appeal to anyone who has big video and photo files. "This is a real big market for us."
