Lighten your load by dumping those old incandescent Christmas light strands

OK, I'm not feeling as morbid as Harry is today, but recycling is on my mind. My friends at HolidayLEDs.com just don't give up! The company, which is based in Jackson, Mich., is extending the recycling program it started in November to collect incandescent Christmas lights. I, personally, haven't taken down anything yet and won't be doing so for several weeks. But if your New Year's resolution list includes greenifying yourself, when you take those energy-sapping light strands down, pack them up and send them to the following address:

HolidayLEDs.com Attn: Recycling Program 120 W. Michigan Ave., Suite 1403 Jackson, MI 49201

So far, HolidayLEDs.com reports that it has received about 1,000 sets of lights from about 250 people. Maybe we can double that? What do you say? One shipment received by the company included 650 pounds of lights, the company reports!

The cutoff for the program is now Jan. 31, 2008.
