We've written about the role of LED technology in reducing the energy consumption of everything from holiday lights to digital signage to notebook screens. Luminus Devices, which develops the PhlatLight LED technology, is pushing the technology forward in multiple categories. Here's some background from a post I wrote about the company last summer.

Its latest public move is a cross-licensing and intellectual property relationship with Nichia, which claims to be the largest supplier of white LEDs in the world. Under the deal, the two will focus on developing and marketing a new generation of high power white LED products. The arrangement covers both ideas and manufacturing processes. The first products born of this relationship will emerge before the end of 2009.

Luminus also made a splash at last month's Consumer Electronics Show, when several manufacturers introduced projectors based on its PhlatLight technology. Those products include home theatre projectors from Chi Lin Technology and Delta Electronics, and a miniature projector from Acer called the Acer K10.
