McData has maintained its position as the director switch market leader for the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan) in 2004, according to recent IDC statistics.

The research company's Fibre Channel Switch Market 2004-2009 Forecast and Analysis report stated that McData commanded a 44.8 percent market share last year.

-McData is firing on all cylinders," said Paul Rath, vice president of sales and services, McData Asia-Pacific and Japan. -IDC expects rapid growth in two classes of systems -- entry-level 8- to 16-port FC switches and blade server embedded FC switches.

"IDC's findings confirm McData's momentum in Asia-Pacific, especially in major markets such as Korea, China, Southeast Asia and Australia," Rath said in a statement.

IDC said McData's recent acquisition of CNT, a leading provider of wide area networking and SAN technologies, and the company's new offerings such as Eclipse 1620 and the Eclipse 2640 SAN routers contributed to its performance.
