It looks like Microsoft Asia has a special project up their sleeves. Concept images are surfacing on the Internet with many tech bloggers pointing at a charging pad for portable gadgets, but with some special extras as well.

Tech blog Being Manan has posted images that supposedly go with a patent that Microsoft filed from Beijing. Some of the interesting tidbits pulled from the patent cite that this flat charging station will include a "display for text, graphics, and/or other suitable items." The patent points toward a OLED display.

Apparently those files could be displayed from a computer or similar device hooked up to the charging pad, but could it transfer via Wi-Fi or from the gadgets (i.e. smartphones) charging too? And what other "suitable items" could be included? The patent cites "weather conditions, sports scores, news headlines, and/or other selected items," as far as text goes, but maybe other file formats could pop up. Video? Or maybe it will follow the year's big trend and include an e-book reader function as well, but I doubt it.

As for its primary purpose (charging devices), the unnamed charging pad powers up gadgets wirelessly, and it has three power modes (idle, load detection and charging).

Based on these points (and more if you really want to dive into the patent with all the legal mumbo-jumbo), would you be interested in buying a device like this? And what else do you want to see included?
