Microsoft Corp. has asked a federal appeals court to give both it and the Justice Department 60 days to file petitions and other matters in the government's antitrust case against the company. If that schedule were adopted by the U.S. Court of Appeals, a ruling could be handed down by next summer. The DOJ will file its proposed schedule by Thursday.

Microsoft said also that principal briefs in the case should be limited to 56,000 words and replies to 28,000 words. Microsoft also requested each side get 90 minutes for oral arguments. -- ZDNet News staff
