Motorola to give the gift of Jelly Bean to RAZR family this Christmas

Some of Motorola's RAZR-branded devices should receive an update to the Jelly Bean version of Google's Android operating system before the festive period is over.

Motorola RAZR HD handset owners in Europe will be able to upgrade their devices to the newest Jelly Bean version of the Android operating system starting from December.

The company confirmed its decision to offer the newer platform in an update to its EMEA rollout schedule posted at the end of last week.

"We are working very closely with Google and our carrier partners to bring you the best possible experience on each of our Android-powered devices," the company said on the update page. "This means ensuring that all upgrades and updates enhance device functionality and provide an overall improved experience."

While the RAZR HD looks set to get the software before the end of December, other models in the RAZR family, such as the RAZR i — one of the first phones in the UK to use Intel's mobile processor — will not receive the update until the first quarter of 2013.

Older devices like the Motorola RAZR and RAZR Maxx that only started to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich build of Android in September 2012 are set to get the upgrade to Jelly Bean, but only for "select countries and carriers", that have not yet been confirmed. No specific timing for the upgrade for these devices has been announced.
