MSN Mobile to carry ads: I don't like the idea a bit; do you?

Poll and comment entry opportunities below, but today, a major announcement has served notice that the road to ubiquity for such interruptions has just gotten wider.

Colleague Elinor Mills reports that starting today, Microsoft's MSN Mobile will carry advertising.

First on the deck will be Bank of America, Paramount Pictures, and Jaguar.

In addition, MSN Mobile users will now be able to purchase movie tickets over the phone with a credit card.

I guess what would make Microsoft happy is if you charged your ticket to a Paramount Pictures movie with a card issued by Bank of America. That's the easy part.

Being able to afford a Jaguar to drive to the cinema with, well that would be a little more difficult.

In the face of competition from the likes of Yahoo! and Google, I could see why Microsoft felt the imperative to offer ads on mobiles.

I'm all for e-commerce on mobiles, accessed through the mobile carrier's content decks. But ads for bank CDs?

Ads when some cell networks are still s-l-o-w.

At least, you, the lowly consumer, should have the right to go to your Preferences on your mobile, or on your carrier site, and disable all ad notifications should that be your wish.
