Murdoch, BT spot Net gains
BT and News International teamed up today to put newspapers including The Times, Sunday Times, The Sun and News of the World onto an single interactive service.
Available from January 1997, Springboard is a jointly-owned news service designed for the mass consumer market. It will carry content from News International titles as well as local news. The service will be personalised and multimedia rich, said BT.
A spokesman for BT said the length of the pilot scheme hasn't yet been decided, but subscription pricing will follow later in the year. "It will be a browser front-end onto the Internet, but will also very much be a walled garden when it comes to content," he said.
