Australian digital media company Destra will soon hire a new chief information officer to manage its speedily changing technology operations.

Destra delivers business communications and consumer entertainment solutions based around the new online environment. For example, the group claims to be the largest digital music provider Down Under.

An advertisement placed today for the new CIO position made it clear providing for the technology needs of Destra's four operating divisions wouldn't be a walk in the park.

"The business unit executives are highly demanding and technology literate, and you must gain their confidence and respect," the listing stated. "This is a highly technology dependent and dynamically changing market, and the IT platform to support business growth is critical for the success of the company."

"Strong strategically and comfortable dealing with senior executives, you will thrive on maintaining currency with both existing and newly emerging technologies, while ensuring the delivery of outstanding capability to the business."

The listing noted Destra maintained an in-house development capacity but also outsourced some ICT functions. Destra's corporate systems maintain its financial records and also provide "meaningful business intelligence" to executives and the company's board.

The challenging nature of the Destra position may mean paying a little more than the average CIO salary. "This is a unique opportunity to join the executive team of a key player in the exciting world of digital media," the listing said. "Therefore the package is negotiable to attract outstanding candidates."

A spokesperson for Destra could not immediately confirm how its technology operations had previously been managed.
