News Burst: Huge memory leap from Hitachi
A team of scientists sponsored by the Japanese electronics giant Hitachi claims it has made a significant breakthrough in semiconductor memory technology. The technology will make it possible to create a chip the size of a thumbnail capable of storing an entire film -- as much as 8 Gb of data -- Hitachi says.

Lightweight consumer gadgets have been promised by Hitachi's semiconductor team which is working with Cambridge University's Cavendish laboratory on the project.
