News Burst: Russia to be Internet Big Brother?

Russian police are considering monitoring Internet traffic, according to a report by The Guardian today.

The paper says that Russian Communications agencies are working on a project called SORM which will allow monitoring of emails and Internet usage by means of devices installed at ISP offices. The plan could include the requirement for ISPs to build a dedicated information superhighway connecting with the security agency FSB, formerly the KGB.
