HMV Australia and ninemsn have teamed up to launch a co-branded music download store that will deliver both digital and physical music to Australian customers.
The partnership will see both companies deliver a range of online music products and services beginning with digital music downloads and an online CD and DVD entertainment store.
The ninemsn HMV download store, which is powered by OD2, will initially offer around 350,000 tracks representing music from the five major labels together with over 100 independents.
ninemsn HMV Music will also offer HMV's entire physical catalogue of CDs and DVDs through an online store. In addition to the online shop front, this catalogue will be sold through "integrated, contextually relevant links across the ninemsn network, taking advantage of ninemsn's channel nine and ACP content assets".
ninemsn CEO, Martin Hoffman, said, they are "evolving with the way people shop, buy and enjoy their music".
"Online music gives people an additional option and its here now--it's legal, easy to search, buy, download and listen to," he said.
Stuart Fraser, managing director HMV Australia, said the partnership is an ideal step for the company and complements their "bricks and mortar business".
"This partnership in Australia opens up huge opportunities for us and complements our bricks and mortar business. By focusing on our core values of superior range, customer service and best people we will be able to offer the perfect one stop solution to consumers whether it is in the digital or physical world," Fraser said.
ninemsn HMV Music will offer additional online music related products and services over the coming months.
And in another move today, ninemsn has teamed up with Creative Labs to offer music download services for AU$.95c, but only for those who purchase a Creative Digital Audio Player.
Customers need to purchase AU$50 worth of music credits from ninemsn to get the discount. After the purchase, ninemsn will provide a AU$50 credit bonus giving the customer AU$100 worth of download credits to spend in the ninemsn music store.
Nathan Dawes, Marketing Manager, ninemsn, said they aim to "make it even easier, more accessible and more appealing for people to get into digital music".
Those who purchase Creative digital audio players between the 20th of October 2004 and the 31st of January 2005 are entitled to the 50 percent discount offer from ninemsn.
