Palm releases Direct Push update for Palm OS based Treos

Treo 680 and 700p owners now have the ability to get push email on their devices with the Exchange ActiveSync Update for Palm OS devices that was made available today. You can install the update over-the-air and in addition to the Direct Push Technology features, users also get the security updates that are a part of this module.

Palm OS Treo users have had the ability to sync with Microsoft Exchange servers through Versamail and the Exchange ActiveSync utility for quite some time. However, there was one important piece missing that Windows Mobile Treo users have had and that is push email functionality. Palm just announced that Microsoft Exhange ActiveSync Update for Palm OS devices is available now as a free download at www.palm.com/easdownload.

The update adds the Direct Push Technology to the Treo 680 and 700p for syncing email, calendar, and contact information with Exchange Server 2003 and 2007. The update also adds over-the-air remote wipe security for lost or stolen devices, Global Address List lookup functionality, and over-the-air password policy enforcement. You can even install the update over-the-air too.

Thanks to 1src.com for the heads-up on the press release.
