At CES last year, Palm made a big splash with its press conference announcing the Pre smartphone. This year, the company expects to deploy WebOS 1.3.5.

The update promises more application storage, better performance (applications, connectivity), improved battery life, and --specific to the Pixi -- increased speed and responsiveness.

For sure, the company needs to knock another home run out of the park this year. Its fabled turnaround is stalling, and the company's recent earnings did not meet expectations.

The Palm press conference is on January 7, and this ZDNet editor will be there in person. Stay tuned.
