PC makers target sales to MPs

Feeling the summer drought in UK sales, PC makers are targeting a new segment that can't wait to get its hands on new systems as they move into new jobs and offices... members of parliament.

New and re-elected MPs are being bombarded by mailings from PC vendors seeking to cash in on the sea change caused by Labour's landslide election victory last month. The well-publicised problems of politicians desperately seeking work space and office equipment has made them a prized target for eagle-eyed systems and peripheral makers.

"We've had probably eight, nine, ten or more offers from PC firms," said the parliamentary assistant for Kevin McNamara, Labour MP for North Hull. "There are all these new bodies without equipment waiting for the Tories to move out and accommodation is very cramped. It's really good marketing on behalf of the PC makers".
