PDA OS market shares: Palm - 40%, Microsoft - 36.6%, RIM - 18.6%

Global sales of PDAs totalled 2.75 mln units between April and June, marking the end of 10 consecutive quarters of falling shipments. According to Gartner, sales were up 12% YTY. RIM's Blackberry sales increased 289% in Q2 2004. HP's shipments were found to have increased 38.9% in Q2, although most of its models were about one year old. In terms of PDA OS shipments Palm OS continued to lead the market, with a worldwide market share of just over 40% in Q2 2004. But its market share was down from Q2 of 2003 when it accounted for 51% of the market. Windows CE's market share in Q2 of 2004 reached 36.6%, up slightly from the same period last year when its market share totalled 36.3%. RIM's share of the PDA OS market increased to 18.6%, up from 5.3% market share in Q2 2003.
