Dr. Herb Singh, Austin Texas, Docmos.comIt always surprises me how little merchandising goes on in the medical space.

It surprises Herb Singh (left) too. So the Austin-based urologist has done something about it, launching Docmos, a service which aims to give consumers better deals and radiation experts some marketing support.

The home page is simplicity itself. Input the kind of picture you need taken and your city. Up pops a Google map showing where you can get a deal.

As an example I entered MRI and Atlanta. The first pin on the map was for the Atlanta Medical Center near downtown, where it says I "might" be able to get a rebate of as much as $100.

Pictures are pictures. Most patients simply call the clinic their physician refers them to. Sometimes the physician is associated with the clinic, or there may be some other financial arrangement the patient isn't aware of.

The point is the patient doesn't shop around. Dr. Singh thinks they should, and he's made it possible so they can. Yes, good news from a urologist.
