Report: China renews Google's web licence

Google has had its internet content provider licence renewed in China, according to a report
Written by Tyler Thia, Contributor

China has renewed Google's Internet Content Provider (ICP) licence, allowing the search giant to operate for another year, reports said on Wednesday.

The renewed licence also allows the company to expand its "limited suite" of services, reported Chinese news site ifeng.com. The country's regulations dictate that the licence must be renewed annually.

According to AFP, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology named Google's China website operator, Beijing Guxiang Information Technology Co Ltd, as one of 137 firms that had their licences renewed following adjustments in their operations.

A US cable recently published by Wikileaks has shed more light on Google's decision to censor its services in China in 2006.
