The private beta ofSalesForce Chatter has gone live for one hundred companies with much excitement. As you might recall, we covered Chatter last November. It’s basically a Facebook for the enterprise, but also serves as a base for further cloud-computing apps to be built.

Firsthand accounts of success with Salesforce’s system are now available along with the company’s beta launch video on YouTube.

The most impressive aspect of this application is the formatting.Playing off of the popularity of social networking sites, like Facebook, Salesforce’s design team create a very user friendly program that will be immediately comfortable to hundreds of millions of Americans. The difference between this application and its social networking predecessors is the way in which the user chooses who and what to follow, as well as how he filters this information. The YouTube Demo put out by the company does an excellent job explaining this process.

Although an excellent proposition for business of nearly any size because of its malleability, this app will be very attractive to small and mid-size companies that rely on employees to take part in more than one aspect of the business. This could provide management the potential to easily track employees, documents, and projects in real time with little training or explanation needed because it is so closely related to something that the vast majority of employees will already understand.
