Seagate has launched a new family of enterprise disk drives, with the company's first 2TB drive taking pride of place.
The Constellation storage drive range, launched on Monday, features 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch models and promises to decrease power consumption by up to 54 percent using Seagate's PowerChoice technology. They also have been designed for higher reliability and include data-security features, the company said.
The Constellation 2.5-inch hard drive comes in 160GB or 500GB versions. It has a 3Gbps Sata interface, as well as a SAS 2.0 interface with a 6Gbps transfer speed. The Constellation drives spin at 7,200rpm.
The 3.5-inch drive, named the Constellation ES, is available with 500GB, 1TB and 2TB of storage capacity. This is Seagate's first 2TB drive, and it follows competitor Western Digital's own 2TB drive, the Cavalier Green, which was launched in January. The ES also comes with SAS and Sata interfaces.
