Sharp edges forward in MFDs, handhelds

Sharp today launched its first multifunction device (MFD) at the SoHo market, the F-2700M (£1,100 + VAT), and brought out two PDAs, the ZR-5700, (£366 + VAT) and ZR-5800 (£451 + VAT).

The F-2700M combines fax, phone and laser printer/copier, and can print 4ppm at 300dpi. It comes with Microsoft's 'Sleek' - low-memory - version of Windows Printing System. The device supports simultaneous fax broadcasting to up to 50 locations, a 39- to 95-page memory and anti-junk, a feature to prevent the receipt of unwanted faxes.

The two new handheld devices extend Sharp's ZR-5000 range by adding CompuServe links and a spreadsheet. The ZR-5700 (1Mb RAM) and ZR-5800 (2Mb RAM) both offer PIM and communications functions and both pen and keyboard input. Both Lotus cc.Mail and Microsoft Mail clients are available.

Sharp can be contacted by telephone on 0800-262958.
