SINGAPORE--Sharp gave what it said was the thinnest, lightest notebook in the world its Singapore launch on Friday.

The Japanese electronics giant's PC-UM10 notebook weighs just 1.3 kg and is a petite 28.2cm by and 23.2cm by 1.66cm.

Typically, only sub-notebooks can boast this sort of weight and thickness, but the PC-UM10 has a near full-sized keyboard and a 12.1-inch LCD screen.

Kenji Okunaka, managing director of Sharp-Roxy Sales (Singapore), said that Sharp has spent about US$1 billion developing the new, super-thin LCD panel found on the PC-UM10. --John Lui, ZDNet Asia
