Sitting in Telstra's half-yearly financial results briefing recently I couldn't help but wonder how the company's chief executive Sol Trujillo kept his cool for so long.
a beer drinker?
This impressive performance mirrored Trujillo's conduct at last year's annual general meeting.
Trujillo was polite and receptive to every element of the abrasive audience at that event, even those that treated Telstra's board with contempt.
It makes me wonder what the executive's secret is.
I can't picture Trujillo sitting down for a calming Zen meditation session when he gets home from a rough day at the incumbent, nor does he seem a man who would be overly fond of chamomile tea.
What do we really know about the guy that for the last seven months has captivated the attention of Australia's media?
For example, what is Trujillo's favourite beer? Does anyone really know?
I'm not sure I could respect a man who still drank American beer yet was at the helm of Australia's largest telco.
Trujillo seems more refined than the average VB drinker, yet I don't think he's a metrosexual with a taste for Tooheys Extra Dry.
If I had to pick his drop I would guess it would be Coopers.
One of Australia's more refined beers, Coopers has long been a favourite of South Australian drinkers.
Like Trujillo, Coopers Pale Ale is smooth yet not lacking substance. It is currently finding a wider audience away from its home territory.
Coincidentally Pale Ale also happens to be my own poison.
So in the spirit of this great land and in keeping with fine ZDNet Australia tradition I would like to invite Sol to try a sixpack or two of this fine vintage at our expense, if he hasn't already tried it.
Rod, can you advise a shipping address?
