Some great ideas to improve the enterprise soft client
On his blog, IP telephony entrepreneur and recognized industry thought leader Eric Lagerway has a post that he's titled "The New Era Enterprise Soft Client."
I happen to agree with every single one of Eric's ideas. He'd like to see:
More automation of "mundane" IP administrative tasks such as adding or moving users;
Increased ease for performing these tasks from the server side;
Allowing the user to decide whether they prefer the IM or phone interface to be the default UI;
Offer an enterprise softphone dialpad easily accessible from the IM interface even when the user selects the IM interface as their default UI;
(Me: YES!!!)
More remote control admin access, such as allowing users to log on to a website and divert calls from their softphone to a cell phone or even a landline in their hotel room.
OK, those ideas are practical. But let's do more than practical. Let's combine practical and cool, K?
Eric wants:
The ability for VoIP-compatible voice recognition software to parse words from conversations, extract those keywords, and look for blog postings or news items that contain these keywords. Then, headers could be posted in a separate window that would appear on the softphone during the conversation.
Eric isn't the only one who wants this.
I do. You too? Post a Comment and let us know.
