Sonicblue picks up audio manufacturer empeg

Sonicblue -- formerly S3 Inc. -- announced on Monday that it had completed the acquisition of empeg, a UK-based company that designs and sells digital audio players for cars. empeg will become a part of Sonicblue's Rio Division. Rio will introduce empeg's products to U.S. consumers under the Rio name in the coming months and will continue to develop Rio car products. The empeg car player is an in-dash player with a 600-hour capacity. The player uses a Linux OS and hard disks designed not to skip when jarred. -- Richard Shim, ZDNet News
