In case you were hoping for one, don't count on getting a Sony Reader Daily Edition by Christmas. Pre-orders are one thing; shipping seems to be on a different page.
The newest Sony Reader model (Daily Edition, following in the footsteps of the Pocket Edition and the Touch Edition), is now available for pre-order at the SonyStyle online store, starting today. But while you might be able to pre-order now in the midst of holiday shopping, you'll see a bold, bright blue message at checkout: "Pre-orders will ship Dec. 18 thru Jan. 8. Actual delivery date cannot be guaranteed." Well, that could throw anyone's holiday plans for a loop.
Engadget reports that we'll start seeing some magazine and newspaper content deals and providers within the next month. But that's not really much of a consolation without an actual eReader in-hand.
Certainly it would be a pricey gift ($399, plus escalating subscription costs for use of AT&T's 3G network), but now it's not really an option at all without a guarantee to arrive before the end of the year. Maybe they should take a cue from B&N and have those eReaders ready to ship and under the tree by December 25.
