After a major release delay back in February, Spring Design is finally ready to swing open the doors for pre-orders of the Alex e-book reader. But is it already too late for this little guy?

While it was announced that Spring Design's online store was ready for customers, the website doesn't appear to be ready quite yet, so keep checking back throughout the day if you're going to take the plunge. The dual-screen e-reader costs $399, running on the Google Android OS and ready to connect to Google's online bookstore via Wi-Fi or 3G.

While it has gotten some good reviews since it was announced last fall and after an appearance at CES 2010 in January, these delays won't be doing Alex much good up against all those other e-book readers that have already been announced and put up for pre-order. Not to mention another device with e-book capabilities also coming out in April.

Will you be buying an Alex e-book reader? Or has another one caught your eye already?
