First unveiled last winter, TDK is welcoming spring with the official launch of its new Life on Record premium boomboxes.

TDK has gone back to the drawing board and back to its boombox roots with these new audio sound systems. Using an old school style and even some retro touches like the heavy silver rotary dials, these machines are completely modern with 6-inch coaxial drivers, a 6-inch subwoofer driver (on the 3 Speaker Boombox), as well as auxiliary and USB connectivity.

Now available in the United States and Canada, here's the pricing scale for each item in the Life on Record collection:

  • $499 - 3 Speaker Boombox
  • $399 - 2 Speaker Boombox
  • $299 - Sound Cube
  • $399 - USB Belt Drive Turntable
  • $299 - Belt Drive Turntable
  • $249 - Headphones

Personally, I like the dual-speaker boombox option the best. It's a bit pricey, but it's the most portable as it should be easier to transfer from the living room to a picnic outdoors, and vice versa. (FYI, that model uses either AC power or 10 D-sized batteries.)

Consumers can find these online and on shelves from a variety of retailers, namely Amazon, Best Buy and J&R Electronics.
