Telstra's muru-D startup accelerator has entered into a partnership with New Zealand business growth hub The Icehouse.
The new agreement sees muru-D and The Icehouse share best practice acceleration principles; connect Australian and New Zealand startups and mentors; and expand startups' business networks by fast tracking access to potential investors and customers.
"Our first muru-D global partnership will substantially increase the number of opportunities for both our current class and alumni, as The Icehouse gives us access to their extraordinary network of investors," said muru-D co-founder Annie Parker. "The opportunities the muru-D startups can tap into through The Icehouse, particularly those seeking investors for Series A funding, are tremendous.
"New Zealand is well known for its healthy entrepreneurial environment, so it made sense for us to look across the Tasman for our first global partnership," she said. "In today's global economy, we cannot operate in isolation. We're confident this partnership will help us secure and encourage the best entrepreneurial talent."
The Icehouse has helped more than 250 startups raise NZ$117 million in funding, with nearly 50 percent of the funding coming from its angel investor network, ICE Angels, according to the organisation's CEO Andy Hamilton.
Hamilton said the organisation has been very impressed with the calibre of muru-D's startups and the ecosystem it has built to support them.
"We're keen to leverage its excellent business and technology relationships and share our learnings, so that together, we can help attract the best investors for our communities," said Hamilton.
The partnership agreement comes as the startups in muru-D's "second class" approach the end of the six-month program, with the accelerator's demo night set for May 7.
