The Queen goes open-source

Royals decide People's OS, Linux, is best.
Written by Will Knight, Contributor

The Royal Family has dumped Sun's Solaris and, according to reports, is now running its Web server on the people's choice... Linux.

The report follows a survey of Web site servers at Netcraft and illustrates that the Queen really is trying to be like the rest of us.

The Royals' original move to show their embrace of new egalitarian technology with the launch of their site has been followed by several other European monarchies.

It is not yet clear whether the move will allow Linux operating system versions, following in the tracks of Marmite, Gordon's Gin and other consumer products, to bear the royal seal of approval.
