It's not positioning itself to be a competitor to Best Buy like Walmart has, but Target manages to come up with a cheap TV special almost every week. This week it's offering a couple of Westinghouse LCD sets at bargain prices for those not put off by the second-tier brand. If you're looking for a real inexpensive TV, Target has the 32-inch Westinghouse 32H640G for just $299. Our sister site CNET didn't love it, however, and it doesn't seem to be available online to comparison shop. Likewise, you can't compare the $499 price for Westinghouse's 42-inch 1080p 42F810G, but it's an aggressive price for those looking for a decent-sized set around which to build a budget home theater.

Best Buy's weekly circular promises some clearance prices—no surprise considering the 2010 models should be hitting stores in a few weeks—but a quick check on prices online show that the LG LCDs and most of the Samsung plasmas listed are priced pretty much the same at online retailers. So they'll satisfy your instant gratification if you head out to your local Best Buy, but you won't be scoring a massive deal you couldn't get on the Web. But one Samsung plasma, the 50-inch 1080p PN50B550, appears to be a better deal for the moment. You can grab it for $979.99, while it's still $1,259 at Amazon.com and Buy.com.
