Do you ever open a web browser and just want to know what's going on in your area? Real-time search is getting more interesting by the day, but it's even more important when it's local to you.

Trendsmap - Real-time local Twitter trends

Trendsmap is on top of it. Check out the latest map from the bay area:

There is a lot of buzz about the SF 49ers and Oakland Raiders, but if I wanted to find something else to do, I could click around. When I clicked "bluegrass", I found out that there was a festival happening right down the street:

There are links to recent photos, blog posts about the event, and even a link to the venue on Foursquare. You can filter on keywords and watch tweets stream through in real time.

Trendsmap is very basic right now, but you can view the map in world view, regional view, or "my city" view. There is also a search engine that you can use to find trends.

Very cool site, but I wish I could save searches. This website will get even more fun when Twitter unleashes the geolocation features in its API.

Play with Trendsmap and tell me what you think. What other companies are building cool trend-related and geographic mashups?
