TV commercials: Do you want to make one?

On February 4, Super Bowl XLI kicks off and so does the 2007 super bowl of commercials. The annual sports-entertainment-commercial ritual is perhaps the only televised event where people WANT to watch the commercials.

This year, “you” were offered a chance to help make three commercials in development for the big game.

In ‘Branded Conversations’ frame social media in 2007”and “Super Bowl 2007: Social media kickoff” I present the NFL, Doritos and Chevrolet promotions soliciting “user-involvement” in the conception and production of “real” commercials to air during the super bowl.

February will be a banner month for what I call brand-focused “user-involved” social media content, or “branded conversations.”

Dove brand heralds “make your ad now” to air during a commercial break at the 79th Annual Academy Awards show February 25.

Unfortunately, Dove is being gender exclusive and only allowing women the opportunity to vie for a chance to win a trip to “an exclusive Academy Awards private viewing party in Los Angeles” by creating a 30-second TV spot for the launch of a new Dove product.

Perhaps the NCAA Final Four in March will spur a commercial creation contest!

Would you enter? Do you want to make a TV commercial promoting a brand?
