Here's a couple questions for a hot, lazy, Friday in the middle of July:

What are your training goals for the coming year? Summer is an ideal time to develop training for the coming year since none of those pesky users are around to bug you. You can also invite your favorite, not-so-pesky users over for barbecues, and pick their brains after a few cold ones. Ideally, of course, your training would be something of interest to users since they have to stay conscious through your speals. Personally, I'd just like to move all of my users to a greater level of independence and bring more champion users on board; call it self-serving, but I prefer the term efficient.

Which brings me to my next question: will you be delivering these speals yourself or will you bring in outside folks to train your users? There are advantages to both approaches. Delivering the training yourself helps build rapport with users and gives them a familiar face that is hopefully in touch with their needs and level of expertise. It also tends to be easier for them to tune out said familiar face.

Outside trainers can be subject matter experts but usually cost money and may not be able to address your specific audience. So what will it be?
