Vizioncore is a well-known member of the VMware ecosystem. I had a chance to chat with Chris Akerberg of Vizoncore about this announcement.

What's being announced

Vizoncore has had a great deal of success (over 5,000 installations) helping VMware users make hot image-level backups of their virtual machines with their esxRanger product family. Vizioncore and Invirtus are going to work together to enhance esxRanger so that it can also make image-level backups of their physical systems as well.

Snapshot analysis

Vizioncore has a number of products designed to enhance a VMware-based environment to assure business continuity, high availability and disaster recovery. It competes broadly with companies, such as PlateSpin, and competes with companies, such as Acronis, in the area of virtual machine backup.

The company would say that its offerings have a tighter level of integration with VMware's offerings than the competitors and are more effective in the task of helping IT professionals manage a virtual environment.

I'm sure that representatives of PlateSpin would chime in to say that their products are better.

I would suggest looking into both company's products and decide for yourself. Both have a good reputation and have interesting, innovative products.
