Few visionaries have had a more significant role in the evolution of Internet access than Sky Dayton.Dayton, who is all of 33, co-founded EarthLink in 1994. Although he hasn't run the company since the early days,he remains a board member.

In 2001, Dayton founded Boingo Wireless, a high-speed Wireless Internet Service Provider with more than 12,000 hot spots. He's currently Chairman.

Yesterday, the free-subscription Fierce Wirelessnewsletter interviewed Dayton about his views of VoIPs future role in Boingo, as well as in the new EarthLink-SK TelecomMobile Virtual Network Operator venture where he serves as CEO.

Dayton intimated that Boingo's existing partnerships with companies such as Vonage and Equity is helping fuel the push for VoIP over WiFi.

VoIP over WiFi is clearly a trend we intend to leverage," said Dayton.

Yet Dayton is a bit less enthusiastic about VoIP over the next generation of handsets. "I haven't seen a convicinging argument for VoIP over 3G yet," he added.
