Windows 10: Microsoft pushes out new build ahead of the Creators Update
With the Creators Update just around the corner, Microsoft is focusing on stability issues in its preview releases.
Microsoft has released the latest Windows 10 build for the Anniversary Update version, as well as a new Fast ring preview of its upcoming Creators Update.
The new update for all Windows 10 users delivers build 14393.969 for PCs running on the Anniversary Update, also known as version 1607.
The update fixes an issue in last week's Patch Tuesday update build 14393.953, which caused Microsoft's paid-for Windows DVD Player to crash, and addresses a bug affecting Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10.
"Some customers using Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 1607 Client with Switch Embedded Teaming (SET) enabled might experience a deadlock or when changing the physical adapter's link speed property. This issue is most commonly seen as a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION or when verifier is enabled a VRF_STACKPTR_ERROR is seen in the Memory dump," says Microsoft.
The Windows DVD issue also affects third-part apps that use Microsoft's MPEG-2 handling libraries.
There are no updates for Windows 10 Mobile, which, as Neowin notes, leaves an aging security flaw affecting photos on a phone still exposed.
With the Creators Update just around the corner, Microsoft is focusing on stability issues in its preview releases and so hasn't released any remarkable features in the latest Fast ring test build. The new Fast ring build 15063 supersedes build 15061 from March.
What is notable about this update is that it may be the last one before Microsoft releases the Creators Update to the general public. That release is widely expected to occur in April but Microsoft isn't saying anything beyond that it will be a major update. The Anniversary Update was released last August.
For PCs in the Windows Insider program's Fast ring, this preview release fixes an issue that caused Microsoft's Edge browser to hang and become completely unresponsive.
It also fixes a bug that stopped additional language packs from installing after enabling .NET Framework 3.5.
The Fast ring build does contain fixes for Windows 10 Mobile, which address issues with inbox apps, background tasks such as OneDrive's camera roll sync, and the occasional loss of call, text and email history after an unexpected reboot. It also fixes Bluetooth pairing issues.
The PC build has a long list of known issues that hopefully will be fixed by the time Microsoft releases the Creators Update.
